Built for the manager of a small laboratory working the bench's numbers by hand, only

LIMS inventory management for the small lab: count the bench, cost the test, keep the record.

Laboratory information management software for the manager of a small lab who keeps the bench's figures by hand today and is looking at a LIMS: the test hours a week's samples need against the analysts on the bench and the turnaround that gives, the cost of a test with and without overhead and the margin at the price charged, the share of the bench that goes to quality control and what it costs per reportable result, how full the freezers are and the months until they fill, what retention holds and what leaves it, what instrument calibration costs for the year, and whether the results review keeps up. Free, on the page, no account. Pro keeps every sample, test, result, reagent lot and instrument against the record. Nothing here is an accreditation rule, a method or advice.

Limslane Pro is $39 per month for the whole lab, billed monthly.

One product, three jobs

Count the bench. Cost the test. Keep the record.

Turnaround from the samples in and the analysts on

120 samples a week at three tests each and 20 minutes a test is 120 analyst hours; five analysts at 30 bench hours is 150, so the bench runs at 80% and a working week's samples turn around in four days, worked on the page before the next batch is booked in.

What a test costs, with the overhead in, and what the price leaves

$6.50 of reagent, $1.50 of consumables and 20 minutes at $45 an hour is $23 direct; $9,000 of overhead over 1,500 tests adds $6; the full cost is $29 and a $45 price leaves $16, 36%. The QC sheet then says what share of the bench the controls take and what they cost per reportable result.

Every sample, result, lot and instrument filed where it belongs

Samples from receipt to report, results against the sample, reagent lots with their expiry, instruments with their next calibration and the freezer count file themselves against the lab, so the auditor's question about last year's calibrations has the sheet to hand. Everything exports.

Why not just buy an enterprise LIMS?

Need instrument interfaces, a validated method library, an accreditation module and a hospital-grade LIS through a tender? Buy an enterprise LIMS; it does that and this does not. Need the turnaround, the cost per test, the QC share, the freezer months and the calibration cost worked the same way every week and kept against the samples and instruments, at one flat price? That is the product.
